Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia (HFHNV) is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian volunteer organization that secures land and builds simple, affordable housing for families (of any faith) in need of affordable housing. We build in Arlington County, Fairfax County, and the cities of Falls Church, Alexandria, and Fairfax. Families help with the building of their new home, and then purchases it with 1% down and an interest-free mortgage. In our first ten years, from 1990 to 2000, HFHNV has built homes for 28 families-a total of 108 people-with no mortgage foreclosures. Habitat for Humanity Northern Virginia is a self-sustaining affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
BLC members, working with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia continue to build housing for the homeless. To date, BLC has completed one house and is starting work on a second. Your help is needed to build or support the builders with lunches. You cannot find a more rewarding way to spend a day than helping to build a house for a family that truly is in need.
Talk to some of the folks who participated during one of our previous builds. Learn what they think. Worried about your lack of knowledge or skill? Don't! This is an opportunity to learn while you help someone help him or herself. Who knows, maybe you'll get to use a power tool. Come out and Share God's Love!
